Yesterday was cool. I hung out with Rachel in the morning, then I hung out with some old friends. We ate at a Chinese restaurant downtown that I think we all realized we won't return to. I ordered kung pao chicken and ended up with a whole lotta peanuts... with a side of chicken. heh. And a caffeine rush from all the tea I drank.
Afterwards, we walked around and ducked out of the sprinkling rain by getting some gelato (The best way!). We left and were looking in a froofy candle store when Bruce called! He's like, "Hey, are you downtown?" I was like, "What are you, psychic?" But no, he saw my car and wanted to know if we could hang out.
It was good times. Well, then I got a parking ticket (overstayed my welcome in the lot, I suppose). I tried not to let that get me down, but when one calculates the amount of hours it takes at one's job to pay for one's parking ticket, well, I admit it's a little bit depressing. TWO parking tickets in as many months... before May, I'd never gotten a parking ticket ... well, except for that one I got when my car got STOLEN last year. But that wasn't particularly my fault in the first place. Oh well, as long as I pay it, it doesn't go on my record. Right?
Anyway. We went to the beach after getting smoothies. It was really comforting to watch the ocean, the constant swelling water. It's been awhile since I actually just stood there and watched, without concern about so many other life happenings. I definitely want to go back and be there for a good long time. It's a plan!
Job today... I am trying to remain upbeat. I think I may just have some issues with work in general. Or maybe I just really need to find a job that I enjoy, that is in line with my interests. But I do want to make a mosaic. And learn how to knit. So maybe I should stick it out, at least until I do those things ;)
Yesterday while at the job, I was perusing a cookbook (I've already gotten through most everything else that is slightly interesting). I discovered an interesting factoid: "cookie" comes from the Dutch word for cake, "koekje." The first cookies were actually tiny cakes baked as a test to make sure the oven temperature was right for baking a large cake! I say that was a great discovery.
I also got my deposit back from the last house! Drinks on me!
